Rohit Sharma: India got off to a strong start in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a commanding win by an innings and 132 runs in Nagpur, led by a standout performance from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma who scored a magnificent 120 runs. However, in a post-match interview, Sharma spoke about a major challenge he is facing with his team members.
Rohit Sharma’s hilarious rant
In a conversation with commentators Irfan Pathan and Deep Dasgupta, Sharma jokingly criticized his bowlers for constantly requesting the opportunity to bowl as they approach personal milestones. He expressed frustration about how in every match, someone is close to reaching a personal achievement and thus requests the ball.
Sharma used the example of fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, who bowled a full 10-over spell just to complete his five-wicket haul against Sri Lanka. He said, “It’s really tough (juggling Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar). They are reaching their milestones. Ravindra Jadeja was telling me that he is on 249 wickets. He is telling me ‘mereko ball dedo’. Ashwin was on 4 wickets, he was closer to a 5-wicket haul. He was saying, ‘I want to bowl yaar’. That’s the challenge I am facing at the moment with these guys.”
“I really don’t know too much about the milestones. But these guys are quite aware of it. All these 3 guys are quality bowlers. Whichever end is more helpful, all the spinners want to bowl from that end. That’s obvious. But the pressure is on me, to find the right end for the right one.”

On the field, Ravindra Jadeja made a triumphant return and put in a stellar all-round performance, taking seven wickets and scoring a significant 71 runs. In the first innings, Jadeja took a five-wicket haul, dismissing top-performing Test batsmen Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith. With his spell, he shattered the Australian middle order and helped India dismiss the visitors for 177. With the bat, Jadeja joined forces with Rohit Sharma and Axar Patel to help the home team build a substantial lead.
