ICC Rankings: Shubman Gill, the opening batsman, has achieved his highest-ever ranking at second place, making him the top-ranked among the three Indian players now positioned in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings’ top 10. This marks the first occurrence of such an achievement since January 2019.
ICC issues new rankings
Following his 58-run innings and a noteworthy 121-run opening stand with captain Rohit Sharma during the Asia Cup match against Pakistan, Shubman Gill has ascended one spot. Meanwhile, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have climbed two positions each, now occupying the eighth and ninth spots, respectively. Rohit Sharma contributed a half-century in a recent game against Sri Lanka, and Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 122-run performance against Pakistan has contributed to their improved rankings.
More than four years ago, the trio of Sharma, Kohli, and Dhawan were the three batters in the top 10 rankings. Furthermore, back in September 2018, these three players were positioned among the top six in the batting table.
Less than a month before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Pakistan also boasts three batters in the top 10 rankings. Captain Babar Azam holds the top position with a lead of over 100 rating points ahead of Gill. Meanwhile, Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman secure the fifth and tenth positions, respectively.
