RR vs PBKS IPL 2023: Taking on the tournament with a winning streak, Punjab Kings have defeated Rajasthan Royals by 5 runs in their second match of the tournament. Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to field first. However, Punjab Kings managed to post 197/4 with skipper Shikhar scoring 86* as bowlers failed to restrict them.

Chasing a mammoth total of 198, RR batters failed to make a good start and kept on losing wickets. Eventually, they could muster just 192/7 in 20 overs with skipper Sanju scoring 42 runs, the highest in the innings. Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel played quick-fire knocks in the end but couldn’t take their team to victory. This was also the first-ever IPL match to be hosted in Guwahati.

RR batters fall flat in high chase

Coming to chase a total of 198 runs, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 11 runs off 8 balls. As Jos Buttler was unable to open the innings, R Ashwin was sent to fetch some big hits but he also got out on 0 off 4 balls. Skipper Sanju Samson was the leading run scorer with 42 runs off 25 balls. Devdutt Padikkal scored 21 while Riyan Parag scored 20.

Shimron Hetmyer (36 off 18) and Dhruv Jurel (32* off 15) showed resistance in the end and appeared to take their team across the boundary line but fell short by a few runs. In the powerplay, Rajasthan Royals scored 57 runs with a loss of three wickets. Nathan Ellis took four-wicket haul while Arshdeep Singh also grabbed a couple of wickets.

Shikhar & Prabhsimran’s stunning knocks

Earlier, Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to field first in the game. However, their bowlers failed to stop the batter’s assault as PBKS managed to post 197/4 in 20 overs. Skipper and opener Shikhar Dhawan led the charge by scoring 86* runs off 56 balls, hitting nine boundaries and three maximums.

Prabhsimran too played a valiant knock, scoring 60 off 34 balls, hitting seven boundaries and three sixes. Jitesh Sharma also scored 27 off 16 balls whereas no other batter could play a much more crucial knock. PBKS had a good start in the match scoring 63 runs in powerplay without any loss. Holder grabbed a couple of wickets while Ashwin & Chahal picked a wicket as well.
