Maharashtra’s batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was at the best of his form in the clash vs Uttar Pradesh during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final. Gaikwad scored 220 runs to guide Maharashtra to a 330-run total in the game. However, scoring over 200 is not a new thing these days at the domestic level but Gaikwad’s innings turned out to be a record-breaker.
Gaikwad equalled the record for scoring most runs in an over (43) and he also smashed 7 sixes in one over at the time his side needed a huge boost in the run rate.
Watch Gaikwad’s seven sixes in an over:
He matched the combined effort of Brett Hampton and Joe Carter, off Willem Ludick, for Northern Districts against Central Districts in a Ford Trophy game in 2018.
The 220 not out became the 39th double-century in List A cricket and the fifth-highest score by an Indian in the format. The top score in that list, N Jagadeesan’s 277, was also recorded at this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy, for Tamil Nadu against Arunachal Pradesh.
He also became the second Indian batter after India captain Rohit Sharma to smash 16 sixes in a List A innings. Rohit achieved this feat while scoring 264 against Sri Lanka in an ODI.
