SA vs WI: At the Super Sport Park in Centurion on March 26, South Africa successfully chased down a total of 259 runs in the second T20I of the ongoing series against Windies, creating history. This feat set a new record for the highest run-chase in the history of T20I cricket. The Aiden Markram-led team completed the chase with seven balls to spare, securing their place in the record books. South Africa now holds the record for the highest run-chase in both ODI and T20I cricket.

High-Scoring SA vs WI match

They had earlier set the record for the highest run-chase in 50-over cricket by chasing down 435 against Australia in 2005. They also hold the record for the second-highest run chase in Test cricket, having completed a 414-run chase against Australia in 2008.

The T20I match between the two teams set a new record for the highest-ever aggregate score in the format, with a massive total of 517 runs scored collectively. Proteas won the toss and elected to bowl first. Coming to bat first, the Windies team put up an impressive total of 258 runs, with Jonathon Charles stealing the show by smashing a remarkable knock of 118 runs in just 46 balls.

This feat not only helped West Indies to a commanding total but also broke Chris Gayle’s record of the fastest T20I century by a West Indies batter. Romario Shepherd also made a significant contribution to the team’s total, scoring 41 runs in just 18 balls.

Proteas go all guns blazing in chase

In their response, the Proteas opener Quinton de Kock created history by smashing the fastest century by a South African in T20I cricket. He reached a total of 100 runs in just 44 balls, which is quite an impressive feat, this was also his first century in the T20Is. His partner at the top, Reeze Hendricks, also played a significant role in the chase by scoring 68 runs in just 28 balls. The skipper Aiden Markram then provided the finishing touches with an unbeaten knock of 38 runs in just 21 balls to help the team chase down the target and level the series in the 19th over of the match.
