SA20 2023: The highly anticipated SA20 final between Pretoria Capitals and SunRisers Eastern Cape, which was set to take place on Saturday, February 11, has been postponed due to inclement weather. The Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg was waterlogged, making it difficult for the teams to play. The match has been rescheduled for Sunday, February 12 and will start at 1:30 pm local time.
SA20 2023 final shifted to reserve day
The persistent rain over the past few days has impacted the ground preparation, with the pitch remaining covered for three days and over 200ml of rain falling. Despite this, the SA20 organizers have confirmed that all tickets for the original final date will be valid for the reserve day. The South Africa Weather Service predicts that the weather will clear up on Sunday, with more showers expected for Saturday.
Graeme Smith, the SA20 League Commissioner, stated that the focus is on providing the teams and spectators with an unforgettable final. SunRisers Eastern Cape, led by Aiden Markram, advanced to the final after defeating Joburg Super Kings. Markram starred with a 58-ball 100, while Reeza Hendricks’s 54-ball 96 for the Super Kings was not enough to secure the win.
Graeme Smith reacts on the stadium
He stated, “We’ve engaged the match officials, teams, groundsman, stakeholders and the SA Weather Service, and postponing the match is the best decision to allow for the possibility of a full match in drier conditions. We want to give the teams and spectators a memorable Final.”
In the other semi-final, Pretoria Capitals secured their spot in the final after defeating Paarl Royals by 29 runs. The Capitals relied on Rilee Rossouw’s 41-ball 56 and a strong collective bowling effort to secure their victory.
