Sachin Tendulkar: Sachin Tendulkar, the Master Blaster of Indian cricket, is set to be honoured for his incredible contributions to the sport. After retiring from international cricket almost a decade ago, the legendary cricketer’s achievements are to be commemorated with a life-sized statue installed within the iconic Wankhede Stadium. This is especially significant as it was where Sachin played his final game for India in 2013.

When will Sachin Tendulkar’s statue be installed?

The installation of the statue is expected to take place either on April 30, which is Sachin’s 50th birthday or during the 50-over World Cup, which is slated for later this year. According to reports, this is one of the most significant honours that the cricketing great will receive, and it is a testament to his indelible legacy.

According to the President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Amol Kale, Sachin Tendulkar has granted his approval for the installation of the first-ever statue within the Wankhede Stadium. This is a significant development, as it signifies Sachin’s willingness to be commemorated in this manner and his continued association with the sport.

He said, “He (Tendulkar) is a Bharat Ratna and everyone knows what he has done for cricket. As he turns 50, it will be a small token of appreciation from the MCA. I spoke to him three weeks ago and his consent was received.” Continuing further he said, “It will be the first statue in Wankhede Stadium, we will decide where it will be placed.”

Existing statues of cricket personalities in India

Across cricket stadiums in India, life-sized statues are not a common sight, with only a few being installed to date. These include three statues of former Indian captain Colonel CK Nayudu at stadiums in Nagpur, Andhra, and Indore.

Regarding the Wankhede Stadium, there are several areas named after prominent cricketing figures, including a stand in honour of Sachin Tendulkar, and a corporate box named after former India captain Sunil Gavaskar. While there is a stand named for Dilip Vengsarkar as well.

Sachin Tendulkar’s exceptional cricketing career spanned 200 Test matches, 463 ODIs, and a T20I for India, accumulating a total of 34,357 runs across formats. He holds the world record for the most international centuries, with a remarkable 100 centuries to his name.
