Sanju Samson: In the third and final match of the three-match ODI series held in Trinidad on Tuesday, India secured a remarkable 200-run victory against West Indies, clinching the series. Notably, star wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson played a vital role in his team’s triumph by scoring an impressive half-century. The right-handed batsman scored an impressive 51 runs off 41 balls, showcasing his talent with 2 fours and 4 sixes. Speaking on the achievement, he emphasized that being an Indian cricketer is not as easy as it seems to be.

Samson’s position in the Indian side has been under dispute for a long, and with Suryakumar Yadav struggling in the ODI format and Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul’s injury issues, the demand to give the Kerala wicketkeeper-batter a dependable run continues to grow more.

Sanju Samson speaks about his struggles

Samson, who came in to bat at No. 4, got things started against leg-spinner Yannic Carriah with a six off his first pitch, which led to his dismissal in the second ODI. Prior to holing out to mid-off, he smashed four sixes in a furious knock. After the innings, Sanju Samson also spoke about his struggle in the past years.

He stated, “Being an Indian cricketer is challenging, I have played domestic cricket for the last 8-9 years and for India, here and there, so it gives you a bit of understanding of playing in different positions. It is the number of overs you get and it is not about batting position so you have to prepare accordingly.”

Continuing further, he said, “It feels really great to spend some time in the middle, score some runs and contribute for your country. I had different plans for different players, I wanted to use my feet and dominate the lengths of the bowlers.”

In the absence of rested captain Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya assumed the role of captain and took charge during the latter part of the Indian innings, delivering an impressive finish. With his unbeaten 70 off 52 balls, India managed to set a formidable score of 351/5, their highest in an ODI match played in the West Indies.
