Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana broke a 20-year old record set by Pakistan as both openers scored sensational centuries.

Shafali Verma is a superstar and she is proving that time and time again with her batting. She has made a formidable partnership alongside Smriti Mandhana to form a formidable opening pair for the Indian team.

Both Shafali and Smriti had been out of form for a while now and both of them picked this series against South Africa to roar back in form. While Smriti announced her form back in the ODI Series, Shafali roared back in style in the first test match.

Both Indian openers annihilated the South African bowling to break Pakistan’s 20-year record in the test match. Shafali also became the second Indian batter to score a double hundred in a match.

Sensational Shafali Verma

It took Shafali just 197 deliveries to complete her double century. An inning of 205 runs that included 23 boundaries and 8 sixes took the Proteas bowler completely out of the game.

She became the second youngest women batter to score a double century in test cricket behind Indian legend Mithali Raj. Shafali is just 20 years old at the moment while Mithali achieved this feat when she was 19 years old.

The 20-year-old is now the 10th woman batter in the world to score a double century in the test. She joins the list of Ellyse Perry, Mithali Raj, Tammy Beaumont, Annabel Sutherland and many more.

Smriti Mandhana Continues

Smriti Mandhana scored two back-to-back centuries against South Africa in ODIs. She continued her form again as she once again scored a century to achieve a splendid record with Shafali.

The opening pair stitch not only India’s highest-ever partnership for any wicket, the duo now has the best opening partnership in Women’s Test cricket.

hey broke the 20-year-old world record of Pakistan Women when their opening duo of Kiran Baluch and Sajjida Shah added 241 runs for the opening wicket back in 2004.
