Shaheen Afridi: In a remarkable display for the Welsh Fire against Manchester Originals during The Hundred, Pakistan’s cricket sensation, Shaheen Afridi, continues to solidify his position as one of the world’s finest pacers.
Shaheen Afridi’s sheer pace trembles opposition
Rain affected the game at Sophia Gardens, leading to a reduction to 40 balls per side. Welsh Fire batted first and managed to score 94 for 3. The highlight of their innings was Luke Wells’ remarkable performance, as the opener struck an impressive 57 from just 23 balls, comprising 7 fours and 3 sixes. Among the other batsmen, only Glenn Phillips reached double figures, contributing 19 runs from 12 balls.
In their chase of 95 runs in 40 balls, Manchester Originals required a strong beginning. Nevertheless, Shaheen Afridi dashed their hopes right from the start. The left-arm pacer made a grand entrance in The Hundred, making an impact with his initial two deliveries by dismissing Phil Salt and Laurie Evans, both caught in front of the wicket, sending them back to the pavilion. It was an impressive display of skill and talent from Afridi.

Despite a strong start, the Pakistan pace spearhead couldn’t sustain his initial momentum and ended up conceding 24 runs in his last 8 deliveries. Nevertheless, Welsh Fire managed to secure victory, marking their first win in The Hundred since 2021.
In their pursuit of 95 runs, Manchester Originals came close but fell nine runs short of the target. Captain Jos Buttler fought valiantly, playing an unbeaten innings of 37 runs from just 18 balls, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to lead his team to victory. Similarly, Max Holden also contributed with an impressive 37 runs off 18 balls, but the collective effort fell short in the end.
