Shan Masood: After being struck by a shot from teammate Mohammad Nawaz, Pakistan’s reserve opener Shan Masood was transported to the hospital for scans. Prior to their T20 World Cup 2022 first match against India on Sunday, Pakistan conducted their first training session in Melbourne today.
Shan Masood was chatting with the support workers outside the nets right after his net practise. Nawaz, a fellow lefty, was receiving a blow inside at the opposite end. The 28-year-old all-rounder blasted a powerful smash right back over the bowler’s head, which struck Masood momentarily in the area behind his ear and neck, causing a brief panic.

Masood was taken immediately to the hospital
Masood was knocked to the ground, his neck clenched and he screamed in discomfort. The support crew and his teammates hurried over to him. Nawaz nearly appeared to be in disbelief as he dropped his stuff, got on his knees, and appeared to pray to the Almighty. Not just in their camp, but also among the large crowd of spectators who had assembled to see their stars prepare for the main match, there was a tangible sense of worry.
Masood was helped into the changing room after being helped back to his feet after nearly a minute of everyone’s hearts racing. Nawaz also entered after him.
Soon after, Masood was taken by ambulance to a hospital close to the Melbourne Cricket Ground for scans. Shan Masood was selected in Pakistan’s T20 team for the first time after becoming Derbyshire’s top run-getter in the Vitality T20 Blast this year (575 runs in 14 innings).
