Jasprit Bumrah: India’s star pacer, was diagnosed with a potential stress fracture in his back just a few weeks before the T20 World Cup. This has come up as a huge blow for the team India. Bumrah, who has only participated in 15 games this year—5 Tests, ODIs, and T20Is each—has only recently returned to the T20I format. This was during the Australia series. The pacer, who had accompanied the Indian squad to Thiruvananthapuram for the opening T20I match against South Africa, was unable to play since he suffered back problems during a practise session.

Although, BCCI had not named any replacement for the World Cup. However, for the ongoing series Siraj has been named as his replacement .Siraj, who hasn’t played in many T20I matches, has enjoyed a successful run with Warwickshire. India urgently needs an alternative to death bowling.
Shoaib Akhtar’s predictions came true
Since the news of Jasprit Bumrah’s injury first surfaced, social media has been swamped with several responses. One of them was an old video of Shoaib Akhtar discussing how Bumrah’s uncanny motion can result in back ailments that could endanger his career. Watch the video:
“His (Bumrah’s) bowling is based on frontal action. Players with that action bowl with their backs and shoulder speed. We used to be side-on, and that used to compensate (for the pressure on the back). Front-on action has no compensation and with that action, when the back gives in, you can’t escape it irrespective of how much you try,” Akhtar had said a year ago on a show hosted on ‘Sports Tak’.

The Rawalpindi Express claimed that India couldn’t play Bumrah in all three formats by using the examples of former West Indies pacer Ian Bishop and former New Zealand pacer Shane Bond.
Fans praised Akhtar for correctly predicting Bumrah’s injury-prone behaviour once the video was shared again.
