Shoaib Akhtar: Legendary bowler Shoaib voiced his anger following Pakistan’s shocking loss to Zimbabwe in their T20 World Cup Group 2 encounter at the Optus Stadium in Perth. In the match, Mohammad Wasim Jr. took four wickets in his comeback to the playing XI, although Zimbabwe could only manage a total of 130/8 after choosing to bat first. However, Brad Evans’ valiant final over caused Pakistan to fall short in their reply by 1 run. Akhtar criticised the team’s tactics when breaking down the game, even joking that Babar Azam wasn’t a good captain.
“I don’t know why is it so hard for you guys to understand. I have said this before, and I am saying it again that with our top and middle-order, we can achieve big success. We can’t win consistently. Pakistan have a bad captain. Pakistan are out of the World Cup. Nawaz has bowled the last over in the three games we have lost,” Akhtar said.
Additionally, Akhtar emphasised the areas where Pakistan has to make changes, including as Babar’s batting order.
“Babar should bat one down. Major flaw in Shaheen Shah Afridi’s fitness. Major flaw in the captaincy, and major flaws in the management. We will back you but what brand of cricket are you playing? You can’t just walk into a tournament and expect that the opposition will let you win,” he added.
On Sunday, Pakistan’s next Super 12 game will be against the Netherlands. Their T20 World Cup campaign might be over, though, if they lose.
