Shooting and para-shooting is all set to return to Commonwealth Games when they will be held in Victoria in 2026. Both of the games missed out from the 2022 edition of Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The Commonwealth Games Federation on October 4 announced a list of sports, including debut, which will be part of the Games in 2026. Shooting has been one of India’s most famous events in the history of the Commonwealth Games. The Asian nation has won a total of 135 medals, including 63 Gold medals in both of the sports – the most by Indian athletes in a spot. Wrestling is the next on the list with Indians winning a total of 114, they include 49 gold medals.

Wrestling will not be a part of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Victoria. Archery also continues to be excluded from the sports of Commonwealth Games. Notably, the IOA had urged the Commonwealth Games Federation earlier this year to include shooting and wrestling in Victoria 2026 after they were excluded from the list. The former IOA top brass had met CGF president Dame Louise Martin during the Annual General Meeting of CGF, which was held at the Grand Hotel Birmingham in the UK on July 26.
