India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, shared some relief ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup match against Pakistan, revealing that Shubman Gill is very likely to be available for selection. Gill missed India’s initial matches due to dengue fever but was seen practicing extensively in Ahmedabad. He had tested positive for the virus upon arriving in Chennai, leading to his hospitalization and subsequent exclusion from the Afghanistan game.
Gill attends net session:
On Thursday, Gill arrived in Ahmedabad and engaged in a productive net session at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where the Gujarat Cricket Association had organized practice bowlers and a throwdown specialist. This positive development is significant for India, as Gill has been their most prolific ODI batsman in 2023, amassing 1230 runs at an impressive average of 72.35, including five centuries.
Furthermore, Gill has a strong record in Ahmedabad, with 280 runs in five innings, including two centuries this year, one in T20Is and the other in Tests. As a member of the IPL team Gujarat Titans, he had a remarkable season at the Narendra Modi Stadium, scoring 572 runs in nine innings, which included two centuries and three fifties.
Ishan Kishan out from list?
Gill’s return to the playing XI would likely mean that Ishan Kishan, who had filled in for him, will be benched. Kishan had struggled with his performances, managing just two runs against Australia and a run-a-ball 47 against Afghanistan.
