Shubman Gill, who is unwell, won’t be joining the Indian men’s cricket team for their second ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 game in Delhi against Afghanistan. The BCCI released a medical update confirming his absence from the match.
BCCI medical supervision:
Gill also missed the team’s first fixture against Australia and will continue to stay in Chennai under BCCI medical supervision. While there have been reports of him recovering from dengue, the nature of his illness remains officially undisclosed.
“Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023,” the statement from the BCCI reads.
Gill has been in excellent form this year, scoring 1230 runs in 20 innings with five centuries and as many fifties.
Fifth on ICC World Cup 2023 point table:
India started their World Cup campaign with a victory over Australia, restricting them to 199-all out and successfully chasing the target with KL Rahul and Virat Kohli leading the way. This win places India fifth on the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table, currently led by New Zealand.
