Smriti Mandhana is in the best form of her life currently. After scoring a warrior-like century in the first match against South Africa, she continued her brilliant form and scored back-to-back centuries.
She is ruling this series in her beloved Chinnaswamy stadium and fans in Bengaluru are loving every single bit of her batting. Once again, she was on a rescue mission as Shafali and Dayalan got out after getting a decent start.
But this time she had her skipper on the other side. Smriti alongside Harmanpreet tormented South African bowlers and set India on a 300-par score. Both of them were sensational, but it was Smriti who stole all the headlines when she crossed the 3 figure mark.
What A Player!
It was a perfect inning for anyone who wants to learn how to build an inning in an ODI cricket match. Smriti started slowly on a pitch that was troubling the batsmen at the start, but she kept her calm.
With the pitch settling down, she started letting herself lose and reached the three-figure mark with a strike rate nearing 100. She scored 12 boundaries and a six to reach her century.
Smriti Mandhana Scripts History
With this century, Smriti Mandhana achieved two historic landmarks. Firstly, she equaled Mithali Raj for most hundreds by an Indian in Women’s ODIs. She reached her 7th century mark much faster than Mithali, as it took Smriti only 84 innings to reach this milestone. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is right behind both of these with 5 centuries to her name.
The second record is more impressive as she became the first Indian women player to score back-to-back centuries. No one other than her has scored back-to-back centuries for Women In Blues.
