Sourav Ganguly: On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee voiced her support for former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to nominate him to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Ganguly, according to her, was a capable administrator. “But I don’t know, for some reason, Amit Shah’s son continues on the Indian cricket board (BCCI) but Sourav Ganguly has been removed. What is the intention? We want to know,” she added. Watch Video:
On November 19, 2019, Sourav Ganguly was appointed head of the BCCI. The Bengal chief minister’s comment came amid rumours that Ganguly soured his relationship with the BCCI.
She claimed that sending Ganguly to the ICC is the only option to make up for his “removal” and provide compensation. She urged with PM Modi to see that Ganguly be brought before the ICC. “He is depriving himself. We are proud of him,” she said.
World Cup champion Roger Binny is expected to succeed Ganguly as head of the BCCI. Prior to the BCCI’s annual general meeting, which is due on October 18, the former India all-rounder is expected to win an uncontested election for president.
