South Africa is going towards a clean sweep in the two-match Test series being played against the West Indies. South Africa set a target of 324 runs for the West Indies to win the second Test. By the end of the third day’s play, West Indies have scored 15 runs without any loss. South Africa are leading the series 1-0 after registering a win in the first Test.
After taking a lead of 149 runs in the first innings, South Africa batted very disappointingly in the second innings. Kemar Roach broke the South African batting backbone with four wickets for 52 runs and Kyle Myers three for 24. South Africa were at seven for 73 in the second innings but Van der Dusen’s 75 not out and Kagiso Rabada’s 40 helped South Africa reach 174 runs.
By the end of the third day’s play, West Indies have scored 15 runs in six overs without losing a wicket. Kieron Powell is playing nine while Craig Brathwaite has scored five runs. West Indies need 309 runs to win on the final day and this target can prove to be like a mountain for them as the team has been able to score 162 runs in three innings of the series so far.
West Indies batsmen have struggled to score runs throughout the series and it will not be easy for them to achieve big targets on a falling pitch. Brathwaite’s morale, however, would have been boosted by scoring the target in a similar situation against England at Headingley in 2017 as he had then scored 134 in the fourth innings.
