FIFA Women’s World Cup Final 2023: Sunday was a massive day for Spain. The women’s team won the Fifa Women’s World Cup for the first time in their history. And for a team that entered the international stage in 2015, it is a massive achievement.
But the celebration was halted slightly as Spain Football Federation Chief, Luis Rubiales kissed Spanish player Jenni Hermoso during the medal ceremony. It was an uncomfortable watch as Jenni was also shocked by the gesture.
Hermoso was uncomfortable by the incident as she was caught stating that she didn’t like it in the locker room. Her dislike was caught in various live videos of Spanish players during their post-match ceremony.
Formal Apology By Football Chief
After the disastrous outrage, Luis Rubiales came out and issued a formal apology. In a video released by the Spanish federation, Luis was quite being saying “Surely I was wrong, I have to admit.”
The incident has created a massive outrage over social media as various leaders demanded Rubiales’ resignation. The Spanish Football Chief further stated that “It was without bad faith at a time of maximum effusiveness.”
Massive Outrage
As mentioned earlier, the incident has caused massive outrage all over Spain. It has sparked various consent and gender issues in the country. Many people also came out and stated that this is a type of sexual violence that women experience daily.
Acting Second Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz and Acting Culture and Sports Minister Miquel Iceta have also criticized the incident. Diaz asked for the resignation by Rubiales stating that his action was an attack on Hermoso.
While on the other hand, Hermoso has shown her desire to forget the incident. She stated that she wants to focus on the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final 2023 win by her country and celebrate the victory.
