Spin Legend, Ex-India Captain Bishan Singh Bedi’s death fades India’s WC 2023 win celebration against New Zealand

After a protracted illness, the former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on Monday. His death faded the celebration of India after their win against New Zealand in World Cup 2033. Talking about Bedi, he was 77 years old, and survived by his wife Anju, son Angad, and daughter Neha. Between 1967 and 1979, the illustrious spinner participated in 67 Test matches for India, taking 266 wickets. In 10 One-Day Internationals, he also recorded seven wickets. In the history of Indian spin bowling, Bedi, Erapalli Prasanna, BS Chandrasekhar, and S. Venkataraghavan were the architects of a kind of revolution.

Bishan Singh Bedi’s cricket career

Under Bedi’s direction, the Indian cricket team put on one of their grittytest performances in the five-match Test series in the Australian summer of 1977–1978. Even though the host team, headed by Bob Simpson, won the series 3-2, Bedi’s team put up a valiant fight, winning the third and fourth Tests at Melbourne and Sydney, respectively. India’s first ODI victory was significantly aided by Bedi. In a 1975 World Cup match, his miserly bowling statistics of 12-8-6-1 held East Africa to 120. The Amritsar-born spinner, who played for Delhi on the domestic circuit, amassed 1,560 wickets in 370 matches, making him the top Indian First-Class wicket-taker.
