However, Smith’s post-game comment was interpreted as a hint at his impending retirement, and many cricket experts predicted that the Australian batter would soon decide whether to continue playing internationally. In a recent development, the former Australian captain has clarified the circumstances surrounding his retirement by saying that he is content in his position and relishes the responsibilities.
In an interview with Fox Sports, Steve Smith declared that he has no plans to leave and is eagerly anticipating his next responsibilities. Steve said, “I am always very cryptic with that retirement stuff. But I am not going anywhere, I am comfortable with where everything, we have got a few good tours coming up, and I am excited.” The top-order batter went on to say that he is still driven to score more runs and that he will continue to play as long as he feels that way.
Continuing further, he said “While I still have that hunger and eagerness to improve, particularly to help some of the batter coming through. While I am doing all that and enjoying my responsibilities, I have no plans of retirement.”
