IND vs AUS: Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary batsman, criticised the International Cricket Council for awarding the Indore Pitch three demerit points after the third Test match ended on Day 3. Australia dominated India at the Holkar Cricket Stadium and won with ease by nine wickets to even the series with one game remaining. Gavaskar cited a match between Australia and South Africa from the previous year that lasted just two days but wasn’t handled equally.
How many demerit points did that pitch receive-Gawaskar
“I have one question. There was a Test match in November at Brisbane Gabba, and it was over in two days. Gawaskar asked, “How many demerit points did that pitch receive and who was the match referee there?” According to match official Chris Broad, the Holkar Cricket Stadium pitch favoured spinners right away and didn’t allow for a fair competition between the bat and the ball. “The pitch, which was very dry and unbalanced between bat and ball from the outset, favoured spinners. According to Broad, the fifth ball of the game broke through the pitch’s surface and occasionally broke through again, providing little to no seam movement and an excessively unbalanced bounce throughout the game.
Gabba pitch was too favourable to the bowlers
The Gabba pitch, where Australia defeated South Africa by six wickets, received a rating that was below average and only received one demerit point. “In general, this Test match’s Gabba pitch was too favourable to the bowlers. Extra bounce and occasionally excessive seam movement were present. On the second day, the odd delivery kept low, which made it very difficult for batters to form partnerships,” according to the ICC report.
Three demerit points are a bit excessive-Gavaskar
In the third Test, Australia managed 197 in the first essay before scoring the necessary 76 runs to win on the third morning, while India were all out for 109 and 163 in their two innings.
Although the pitch offered turn, according to Gavaskar, batting was not dangerous.
“I believe that three demerit points are a bit excessive because, while the ball did turn on this pitch, it was not dangerous. “It actually tells you that the pitch got a lot better when Australia scores 77 for the loss of just one wicket,” Gavaskar said.
