Supreme Court: After several top wrestlers renewed their protest and accused the influential head of the Indian wrestling federation, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, of sexual misconduct, the Delhi Police informed the Supreme Court that a case would be filed against him today.
Supreme Court had given Delhi Police notice
The wrestlers had requested a case against Mr. Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India and a BJP MP, and had petitioned the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing. On the wrestlers’ request, the Supreme Court had given Delhi Police notice, claiming that no case had been filed regarding their charges. “Wrestlers who have represented India in international competitions make serious claims in the petition about being the victims of sexual harassment. This court must take the matter under consideration, a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud declared.
Brij Bhushan Singh denied the allegations of sexual misconduct
The wrestlers, who are protesting at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, have stated they will remain there until a case is filed regarding the situation. Star wrestlers like Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia are among them. Brij Bhushan Singh, who had previously denied the allegations of sexual misconduct and promised to fight tenaciously to establish his innocence, yesterday released a video in which he expressed his desire to embrace death on the day he feels helpless.
