Suresh Raina, on Saturday, announced retirement from international cricket along with MS Dhoni. Just a few minutes before his announcement former Indian World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni also announced his retirement from international cricket.
The Indian all-rounder shared this update on his Instagram account like his current CSK captain MS Dhoni.
“It was nothing but lovely playing with you, @mahi7781. With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you on this journey. Thank you, India. Jai Hind!”, he wrote, shortly after the former India skipper hung up his boots.
The Chennai Super Kings’ legendary duo, though, is expected to play in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League, for which both of them had arrived in Chennai for a training camp ahead of the team’s departure for UAE.
This is an emotional moment for Indian cricket because both MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina were been a consistent contributor for the Indian cricket and they will serve further as well not as a player but they will be assigned different roles by the BCCI for the development of cricket in India.
Suresh Raina’s departure from international cricket was the shock for all of us because he was just 33-years-old and a lot of cricket was still left in him. Raina has last played for India in 2018 against England when India lost the ODI series by 1-2. Before that particular series, Raina was not the consistent part of the Indian team but more than his performance BCCI took the things off from him.
Raina was dropped from the team after the failure of Indian ODI team when South Africa toured India in 2015 and after that, he was injured and became the part of team politics as well, by the time he was the consistent member of the Indian T20 side till the 2016 T20 World Cup held in India.
Raina had given a lot to Indian cricket and his decision to retire so early in his career may leave the Indian cricket team in trouble as they are completely failed to manage their senior players.
