T20 World Cup 2022: In the Wednesday encounter between India and Bangladesh, Virat Kohli was accused by Bangladesh’s Nurul Hasan of “false fielding,” raising the possibility that they could have received a five-run penalty.

In the Super 12s game in Adelaide, India and Bangladesh played to a thrilling finish, with the Indian team winning in the very last over. With 50s from Kohli and KL Rahul, India scored 184 runs in their 20 overs. With Litton Das putting the bowlers to the sword, Bangladesh got off to a flying start in their pursuit of the objective. The aim was changed to 151 runs due to rain-related issues.

Following Das’s dismissal by Rahul, India managed to get back into the game and eventually triumphed by a score of five runs.

Hasan said that the umpires had overlooked an instance of Kohli playing a fake field during the Bangladesh innings in a post-match interview, as reported by Cricbuzz. Kohli pretended to transmit a throw from the deep during the incident, which took place in the seventh over. The batters missed it, as did the umpires.

Due to the flow, the action went unnoticed

Hasan claimed that the chase was impacted by the damp ground and that Kohli’s fake throw went unnoticed that particular day.

“Certainly, the field was wet and it had an impact and everyone saw that and eventually, what I felt is that when we were talking there was a fake throw and it could have been a five-run penalty and that could have gone our way, but unfortunately, even that didn’t come,” said Hasan.

ICC’s rule on ‘fake fielding’

“Deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of [the] batter” is forbidden under Law 41.5, which deals with unfair play. A dead ball can be called and five runs can be given to the batting team if the umpire determines that an incident violated the law.

If Bangladesh had won the game, they would have been able to take the top spot in the standings.
