T20 World Cup 2022: Ireland pulled off the biggest surprise of the T20 World Cup on Friday, defeating the two-time champion West Indies by nine wickets and securing their Super 12 spot in the process.
After legspinner Gareth Delany’s career-best figures of 4-0-16-3 limited the Windies to 146 for five, it was their 32-year-old experienced opener Paul Stirling who hammered an unbeaten 66 from 48 balls (6×4, 2×6) to complete the chase with 15 balls remaining.

Ireland is competing in its eighth T20 World Cup, and after making it all the way to the Super 8 in the tournament held in England in 2009, this is just the second time they have advanced that far.
West Indies, the most successful T20 World Cup team with championships in 2012 and 2016, struck a miserable picture as they were eliminated from the group stage with only one victory from three games.
Shimron Hetmyer and Andre Russell were not on the Nicholas Pooran-led team, which lost against Scotland by a score of 42 runs. The team lacked depth and appeared disorganised.
