Lionel Messi: The Argentine might be the best free-kick taker in the world right now and he has proved that once again. Lionel Messi is once again on international duty and just like always he is looking his best in the Albiceleste colors.
The World Cup winner was the hero for Argentina in their qualification round in 2015 and he is making sure to do the same once again. He might not play next World Cup, but he is making sure that his nation will be there.
In the FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Ecuador, Lionel Messi scored a sensational free-kick to guide his team to victory in a rather uninspiring match. It was a usual day at the office for Argentina’s captain but the video has gone viral on the Internet.
Lionel Messi Sensational Free Kick
In a typical South American match, Argentina vs Ecuador was physical and was played with lots of intensity. There weren’t many clear-cut chances by both teams as most of the game was played in central areas.
The La Albiceleste were dominating the game and finally got their reward in the 78th minute. Striker Lautaro Martinez won a free kick in the 78th minute in a central area right outside the penalty box.
It might not be a big chance for many teams but when Lionel Messi is in your team, it is the best chance. And in typical Messi fashion, he curled the free kick into the top right corner.
Ecuador goalkeeper Hernan Galindez had no chance and was not even able to move. He was struck to the ground and could only watch the football touch the back of the net. It was a sensational sight as the ball got lots of curves.
Another Record Broken
With this goal, Lionel Messi has equalized the record set by Luis Suarez. Messi is now the joint all-time leading scorer in the South American qualifiers. It was his 29th goal in the qualifiers.
