Kane Williamson: Fast bowler Tim Southee has been named the new captain of the New Zealand Test team after Kane Williamson announced his resignation as captain. Williamson will stay the ODI and T20 International teams’ captain. Brendon McCullum was replaced as captain by Kane Williamson in 2016. During that time, New Zealand played 38 Tests, winning 22 of them.
Better to continue captaining in white ball cricket- Williamson
Williamson said, “It has been an incredibly special honor to captain the Blackcaps in Test cricket. For me, Test cricket is the pinnacle of the game and have enjoyed the challenges of captaining the side in this format.” Williamson continued, “Captaincy increases the workload on and off the field and at this stage of my career I feel the time is right for this decision. After consultation with New Zealand Cricket, we felt that with two World Cups in the next 2 years, it would be better to continue captaining in white ball cricket.”
New Zealand team will go on a tour of Pakistan
New Zealand cricket got many better moments under the captaincy of Williamson. Defeated India in the final of the ICC World Test Championship in June 2021 and became the No. 1 team in the Test rankings.The 34-year-old Saudi has captained the New Zealand team in 22 T20 Internationals in Williamson’s absence. Tom Latham has been given the vice-captaincy of the New Zealand Test team.At the end of this month, the New Zealand team will go on a tour of Pakistan. Where he has to play a two test match series.
