New Delhi: The Olympic athlete, Ravi Kumar Dahiya confirms another medal for India as he moves forward to the gold medal match in the Mens’s 57kg freestyle category with a win by fall against Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan. Lovlina Borgohain settled for a bronze medal after she lost to Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the women’s welterweight semi-finals.
Though Anshu Malik has lost her first-round bout to Iryna Kurachkina of Bulgaria 2-8, Ravi Dahiya booked his spot in the quarterfinals of the Men’s 57kg Freestyle Wrestling with 13-2 win over Tigreros Urbano of Colombia. Later, Deepak Punia defeated Ekerekerne Agiarnar of Nigeria 12-1 in the Men’s freestyle 86kg 1/8 final and then beated Zushen Lin of China 6-3 to also book his place in the semi-finals.
Neeraj Chopra gave a good start to Day 12 of the Tokyo Olympics as he booked his spot in the men’s javelin throw final without any fuss, his first attempt throw of 86.65m was enough for him to qualify. Top 12 athletes or whoever breaches the 83.50m mark qualify for the final. Shivpal Singh, failed to qualify for the finals.
74.81m was his best attempt. Golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar have also started their Tokyo Olympics journey. India’s day 12 comes to an end with the blockbuster clash between the women’s hockey team and Argentina in the semifinals.
Day 11 at the Tokyo Olympics brought only negative news for the Indian contingent. In the women’s Javelin throw event, India’s Annu Rani finished 14th out of 15 in the Group A qualifying stage. Wrestler Sonam Malik also crashed out of the race to podium finished after suffering a defeat in the bout against Mongolia’s Bolortuya Khurelkhuu in the round of 16 of the women’s 62kg freestyle category.
