ICC T20 World Cup 2024: With just a few days left for the T20 World Cup, IPL 2024 was the perfect audition for the tournament. Not that it was the only criteria for selecting the squad, but it would give some clarity to everyone.
The squad was announced while the IPL was ongoing. Since then almost every squad member has gone through the squad announcement selection curse. But even though it was quite worrying, India has a strong squad for the World Cup and there were some standouts. Let’s take a look at the 5 best Indian players in IPL who are ready to take over the T20 World Cup.
Top Indian IPL Performers
Virat Kohli: We can’t start the list without the orange cap holder. This season of Kohli could be defined in two phases. In the first phase, he was scoring runs but was slow and struggling. In the second phase, he completely adopted the modern T20 strategy and played like a madman.
He was phenomenal in the second half of the season and became the second player to win the orange cap twice. It was a privilege to see the King in top form and we hope it continues in the World Cup as well.
Kuldeep Yadav: The revival of the left arm spinner should be taught in every school. From being dropped from the squad a few years ago, to becoming the linchpin of their bowling.
In a tournament where every spinner was getting bashed, he was constantly taking wickets. In 11 matches he played, he took 16 wickets with an economy of just 8.70 and was handy with the bat as well. India will play in the West Indies, where the pitch grips a little bit, and he will wreak havoc amongst the opposition.
Rishabh Pant: If you do not believe in miracles, you are right. Pant’s story is not a miracle story, rather it is a story of guts, hard work, and ruthlessness. He made his comeback in IPL 2024 after a horrific accident and took the whole tournament by storm.
After the first few matches where he looked rusty, he was back to his best. He scored nearly 500 runs with a strike rate of 150. He will solidify the middle order of the Indian team that has lacked solidity for a while.
Ravindra Jadeja: T20 is a game of all-rounders and when you have the best all-rounder in your squad, you have to be grateful. Jadeja is a match-winner and even showed his capability for Chennai in many matches throughout the tournament.
Jasprit Bumrah: How can we not include the best bowler of the tournament where every bowler was smacked around for fun? Bumrah took 20 wickets in IPL 2024 with an economy of just 6 RPO. He is going into the World Cup as the best bowler and will lead the Indian pace lineup.
