The Lausanne Diamond League was not the usual dominant show by Neeraj Chopra that we are so used to seeing. The Indian athlete added another medal to his tally with a silver but it was not a good show.
Until the 5th throw, Neeraj was struggling to break even the 85-meter barrier and was almost out of the medal race. He picked up the pace in the last two throws and pulled back the game with his season’s best.
It was visible that Neeraj was struggling in his early rounds due to injury, But the sheer talent that he possesses allowed him to come back in the game even after that. It was a wonderful display at the end but it has raised one question.
90-Meter Mark!
It is unfathomable to think that Neeraj still has not crossed that 90-meter mark. It is the only thing that is left to be achieved by him. Last night, he once again came close with his season’s best of 89.49 meters.
This is the second time in a month that he has broken his season’s best record yet he had to be satisfied with a silver. Grenada’s Anderson Peters bagged the gold medal with a throw of 90.61 meters.
It is visible that Neeraj has decided to break that 90-meter mark no matter what. But till then his best might not be good enough for gold as more and more athletes are crossing that mark.
What’s Next For Neeraj Chopra?
The golden boy of India is likely to be in action again at the Zurich Diamond League on 5th September. Even though he is struggling with an injury, his talent and determination allow every Indian to dream of a medal every time he competes.
