U19 World Cup 2023: The Indian Under 19 Women’s cricket team made history by becoming the first-ever champions of the U-19 World Cup. Led by the talented Shefali Verma, the squad dominated the competition, ultimately securing their victory by defeating England in the final match. The bowling attack effectively dismissed the opposition for just 68 runs, allowing Soumya Tiwari to effortlessly score the necessary runs for the win.
Women in Blue rakes in a classy win
This marks a significant milestone, as India’s senior women’s team has yet to claim a World Cup victory. However, the Under 19 team proved their prowess, sweeping past opponents match after match. Though they faced a setback against the formidable Australian team, they bounced back with a dominating performance against New Zealand in the semifinals. The final match was a showdown between India and an undefeated England, with Richa Ghosra leading the charge for the coveted trophy.
The ICC’s debut of the Under 19 Women’s World Cup was a resounding success, with India capturing the title in its first year. This remarkable accomplishment showcases the potential of India’s young female cricketers and serves as an inspiration to the next generation.
Bowlers shine in the U19 World Cup 2023 final
Titus Sadhu picked up two wickets of the top order with just 6 runs. Parshvi Chopra, the best of the last match, took two wickets for just 13 runs. All the Indian bowlers took wickets. England were all out in just 17.1 overs.

India lost the early wicket of Shefali while attempting to score the simple target of just 69 runs. Shweta Sherawat, the opener in good form, was out after one over. After losing two wickets for a total of 22 runs, India immediately found itself under difficult position. With their calm heads, Soumya Tiwari and Gongari Trisha helped India get back into the game. In 14 overs, Shefali’s team conceded the winning run. India achieved international dominance in women’s cricket for the first time.
