UPW vs GG WPL 2023: After two almost one-sided matches in the tournament, the WPL came to life with a thrilling contest between UPW and GG. UP Warriorz won the match by three wickets in which their defeat looked certain. After suffering a massive defeat against Mumbai Indians in the first match by 143 runs, this comes as yet another setback for Gujarat Giants. Batting first, GG put on 169 on board and their victory looked sure until Harris came on the crease. The star batter stitched a run-feast partnership with Ecclestone for 70 runs in 26 balls to win the last-over thriller.
Harris overturns Kim Garth’s fifer
Coming to chase, UP Warriorz had a below-par start. In the third over, Kim Garth wreaked havoc with the ball as she picked up three wickets within the same over. The top order completely tumbled down and was reduced to 20/3. Skipper Allysa was dismissed with a score of 7, opener Shweta scored 5, while Tahila was out on a duck. Kiran Navgire showed resistance and scored a valiant 53 off 43 balls.
Later, Harris put on a firework in Brabourne as she smashed 59 off 26 while Ecclestone smashed 22 off 12 balls. 53 runs were required in the last three overs and the two batters went completely berserk. In the last over, only 19 runs were required and Harries took it through the line with her heroic knock. Though, Kim took a fifer while shelling 36 runs while Mansi Joshi and Gardner picked a wicket as well.
Harleen Deol stars with the bat
Gujarat Giants posted a respectable total of 169/6 in 20 overs. The openers of the team failed to put a mark as Meghana scored 24, while Dunkley scored 13. However, after which, Harleeon Deol led the charge as she scored 46 off 32, hitting seven boundaries. Sutherland and Sushma scored 8 and 9 respectively.
Gardener and Hemalatha played a good cameo in the end scoring 25 and 21 respectively. Deepti Sharma and Ecclestone picked a couple of wickets each while Anjali and Tahila picked a wicket as well. Earlier, Gujarat Giants had won the toss and opted to bat first. In the first match against Mumbai Indians, they were crushed down by a margin of 143 runs.
