UPW vs MI WPL 2023: The dominance by Mumbai Indians continues in women’s Premier League as they thrashed UP Warriorz by a margin of 8 wickets. This is the fourth consecutive victory of MI and have seemingly almost reached the next stage. After winning the toss and batting first, UP Warriorz managed to score 159/6 in 20 overs. However, that did not prove to be enough as their opponents Mumbai Indians chased down the target with 15 ball remaining. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur led the charge with 53* off 33 balls, hitting nine boundaries and one six.
Mumbai Indians edging to final
Beginning on the chase, Mumbai Indians scored 51 runs in powerplay without losing any wickets. Opener Yastika Bhatia scored 42 off 27 balls, hitting 8 boundaries and a six as well. A great drama unfolded for Hayley Matthews wicket in the fourth over but the third umpire eventually adjourned her not out despite two reviews for one wicket. However, she scored just 12 runs off 17 balls in her knock and was dismissed in the 8th over.
After her wicket, UP Warriorz started having hopes but skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Sciver Brunt dashed all of them. At one moment, the run rate was soaring high but due to heroic batting from skipper Kaur (53* off 33 balls) and Brunt (45* off 31 balls) ensured that Mumbai Indians never lose momentum. They eventually won the match for the team by chasing the target easily. Gayakwad and Ecclestone picked a wicket each.
Valiant batting by Healy and McGrath
Earlier, Alyssa Healy won the toss and opted to bat first in the contest. Her team did not begin well as they lost opener Devika cheaply. However, the skipper Alyssa herself and Kiran then formed a partnership. Kiran was dismissed with a score of 17 runs, while Alyssa smashed one more fifty and was dismissed at a score of 58 runs off 46 balls, hitting seven boundaries and one six.
Tahila McGrath showed resistance and scored valiant 50 runs off 37 balls. However, no other batter could do much significant as Simran was dismissed for 9, Ecclestone scored 1, Deepti scored 7, and Shweta scored 2*. Ishaque led the charge for MI in bowling as she picked up three wickets in her spell, while Amelia Kerr picked two and Hayley picked a wicket as well.
