Hardik Pandya was in loads of trouble when he was picked as Mumbai Indians’ skipper for IPL 2024. The fans turned on him even before the season started and his form did not help much.
He was not able to impress with either bat or ball and was underwhelming throughout the seasons. Pandya was not even proving himself as a captain as Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom of the table.
But things changed during the T20i World Cup and Pandya became a hero for the whole nation. His inspiring performances throughout the tournament helped the Indian team to lift the T20i title after 17 long years.
‘We Were With Him’
Jasprit Bumrah, who has elevated himself as the best bowler of this generation was alongside Pandya throughout. He played the IPL 2024 under him and the T20i World Cup alongside him.
He was there with Pandya through his lowest and opened up about how MI players and staff supported the all-rounder in those tough times. The pacer further stated that all the hate was unwarranted and the team does not support that.
He stated “You have to take it on your chin. That’s where the inner circle comes in. We, as a team, don’t encourage that, we don’t promote that, and don’t think that’s warranted.
We were with him (Hardik), talking to him if he needed support. Certain things are beyond your control. If it happened, it happened.”
Hardik Pandya To Be Retained!
The biggest question right now is whether Hardik will be retained by MI or not. With the first two retentions surely being Bumrah and Surya Kumar Yadav, there is a huge debate for the third retention spot.
Many reports have suggested that Rohit Sharma might not be retained by MI and other reports suggest the same for Pandya. We will have to wait for the decision by Mumbai in the upcoming months.
