Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one tennis player, was forced out of the tournament during the pre-quarter-finals of the US Open on Sunday after hitting the ball to the Lineswoman in frustration. He later apologised for this on Instagram and on the ground as well. Djokovic described the incident as an inhuman act from his side.
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) issued a statement against the Serbian star Djokovic and confirmed his exit from the tournament. According to rules in Grand Slam, if a player injures an official or spectator intentionally, he/she will is disqualified from the match and a heavy fine will be imposed on him/her. Djokovic has been found guilty by the match referee.
Djokovic’s match fees for the pre-quarterfinal will be taken away as a fine for his actions in this match, his ranking point will also be reduced.
Novak Djokovic is the number one player in the world and he was also considered as a strong contender for the title, but now he is out of the long-run.
Djokovic was failed to take the opening set and after service drop and was trying to take the lead but he failed again. He got frustrated and unfortunately, he hit a ball to the lineswoman. The ball caused a neck injury to the lineswoman. However, Djokovic apologised to the referee shortly after and stood up.
After this Djokovic’s opponent, Pablo Carreno Busta from Spain has gone into the quarter-finals. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal withdrew from the US Open earlier this year. Carreno Busta was leading 6-5 in the first set against the Novac Djokovic when the incident took place.
