US Open 2022 Final: Spanish star player Carlos Alcaraz won his first Grand Slam title at the US Open on Sunday. He became the youngest man to ascend to the world number one ranking. The 19-year-old tennis star dragged his body to a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory against Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final of US Open 2022. Alcaraz, the first teenager to claim top ranking, is the youngest man to win a grand slam since Rafael Nadal was the same age at the 2005. The youngest player to win the US Open was Pete Sampras in 1990. On a day of landmarks, he is also the youngest champion in New York since Pete Sampras in 1990.
Casper Ruud was anticipating
It was a fantastic tournament for Alcaraz. He claimed the record for most time spent on court at a Single Grand Slam event. He was on the ground for 23 hours and 21 minutes when he finished as a Runner-up at Wimbledonin 2018. Casper Ruud was the most anticipating player for the world number one ranking. Final was his second in a Slam final of this year after he was routed by Nadal in French Open.
The Arthur Ashe stadium crowd observed a movement’s silence on the 21st anniversary of the September 11 attacks before the final got off to a tentative. Both players saved break points in their opening service games before Alcaraz made a great start in the first set for a key 3-1 lead.
Ruud made him pay, edging ahead for 4-2 and then leveling the final on a second set point after another careless Alcaraz drop-shot opened the court for the Norweign.
