US Open 2022: Local player becomes the First Male US player to reach the semi-finals, know everything about him?

US Open 2022: American player Francis Tiafoe is rapidly growing his fan base as he is playing amazingly well. Now, he secured his spot in the semi-finals of the US Open for the very first time. He defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev in a three-setter on Wednesday. After winning the match against Andrey Rublev, the local player becomes the first male American to reach the semi-finals since Andy Roddick in 2006. He famously ended Rafael Nadal’s campaign in the fourth round at Arthur Ashe Stadium.  

“Trying to make a Cinderella story”

Tiafoe has shown his brilliant performance to take down Andrey Rublev. He said after the match, “Seeing people like screaming your name, just loving what you’re doing. That’s awesome, You know, everyone loves a Cinderella story. Just trying to make one”.

Tiafoe comes from a normal background as his father worked as an on-site caretaker at the Junior Tennis Champions Centre and his mother worked as a nurse after the family fled the civil war in Sierra Leone.

When people asked what message his story sent, He said, “Anybody can do it. If you are truly passionate about something, I think anything can happen”. Tiafoe is carrying the weight of expectations throughout his playing career, with his ATP victory in Delray in 2018. He stunned everyone after reaching the quarter-final of the Australian Open nearly a year later.

Tiafoe has faced some defeats in the early stage of his career. Coach Wayne Ferriera added Tiafoe to his coaching team in 2020 and he went on to reach the fourth round at the US Open for the first time during that year.
