Viral IPL Video: Caribbean players are known for the intensity and fun they bring into the game. Several players have become big names of cricket over the years after playing in IPL and Kieron Pollard is one of them. However, many are unaware that he also holds a rather embarrassing record. He actually once took a hattrick, but, of dropped catches. This happened during a match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in 2013.
Kieron Pollard’s embarrassing record
Pollard was stationed at point when he dropped Michael Hussey’s shots thrice in a row off the bowling of pacer Mitchell Johnson. It is possible that this was the first recorded instance of a fielder dropping three catches in a row off successive deliveries from the same batsman, especially since all three shots were nearly identical: cut uppishly and going straight to Pollard’s fielding position.
In the IPL match, the first shot by Michael Hussey was a hard slash, but the next two were hit straight at Kieron Pollard, who unfortunately failed to catch them. After dropping the third catch, Pollard left the field due to the ball hitting him in the cheekbone.
For the defending team, who had a small target of 139 against a strong opponent, it was a big mistake to drop a player like Hussey three times. However, Pollard later redeemed himself by taking a well-judged diving catch at the same point position to dismiss in-form player Suresh Raina. Despite Pollard’s earlier mistakes, the Mumbai Indians skipper kept faith in his fielder, and the West Indian proved himself by making an important catch.

Although Michael Hussey was dropped on three occasions by Kieron Pollard, it didn’t cost Mumbai much as he only managed to score 22 runs. Later in the game, Pollard also made up for his earlier mistakes by taking a catch to dismiss the Chennai Super Kings skipper, MS Dhoni, at long-off.
