Viral IPL Video: MS Dhoni has been the skipper of Chennai Super Kings ever since the inception of the franchise in maiden season. Since then, he has successfully captained the side to memorable victories. Known for his cool-mind and behaviour, MS Dhoni once shocked everyone by showing his other side during the live match. Due to some issues, he stormed into the ground and confronted the umpire one on one.
Captain Cool’s unseen avatar
In a closely contested match between two former IPL champions, the Chennai-based team found themselves in a tight spot, requiring eight runs to win from the last three balls. However, controversy ensued when Ben Stokes bowled a full toss which was initially judged as a no-ball for height by the umpire stationed at the non-striker’s end.
Because of their better positioning, only the leg-umpires should declare a no-ball in these circumstances; but, for unclear reasons, the umpire at the bowling end raised his hand and signalled a no-ball. The incident started when the umpire made a call that was later found to be incorrect, which angered the hitters for the Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni showed his dissatisfaction with the decision from the sidelines, but he later walked right onto the field to talk with the umpires about it.
Spectators were taken aback by this unprecedented show of anger from Dhoni, as it was uncommon for him to lose his cool during a match. Even former cricketers criticized the legendary wicket-keeper for his behavior, citing that it set a poor example for younger players.

The sight of a captain approaching the umpires during a match was a first-time occurrence and remained unparalleled in the future. The severity of the event led many to anticipate a severe punishment for Dhoni, but to their surprise, he received a relatively light penalty. The BCCI resolved the matter by imposing a fine of 50 percent of his match fee.
