Viral IPL Video: Chris Gayle set the record for the highest individual score in Twenty20 cricket 10 years ago with an incredible performance against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India (PWI). He scored an unbeaten 175 runs. It continues to remain as one of the most talked about record of the tournament.
The Gayle Storm against Pune
Prior to Gayle’s feat, the record was held by Brendon McCullum, who had scored 158 for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the league’s inaugural season. Gayle’s incredible knock was completed in just 66 balls and continues to be cherished by even the most passionate fans of the sport. During the 31st match of IPL 2013, a historic moment occurred amidst the rainy weather that day. Although the match had been delayed by a few minutes, no one could have anticipated what was to come next.
Teaming up with Tillakaratne Dilshan as RCB’s opening batsman, Gayle swiftly achieved his fifty off just 17 balls. In a mere 13 additional balls, he reached the century mark, recording the fastest century in the history of the IPL with his 30-ball 100. Gayle continued to shine, scoring 75 runs more off his next 36 balls. In total, his outstanding 175-run innings included a remarkable 17 sixes, leaving spectators in awe of his performance.

To this day, RCB’s 263 runs against PWI remains the highest team total ever recorded in the IPL’s history. In contrast, Pune struggled to reach a total of just 133/9 in their reply, ultimately resulting in RCB’s outstanding victory by a margin of 130 runs.
