Viral Video: During a football match in Sydney’s southwest, a referee named Khoder Haghi was allegedly assaulted, resulting in a broken jaw. The incident occurred on Friday night at Padstow Park during a First Grade match between the Padstow Hornets and the Greenacre Eagles. As a result of the attack, the referee sustained a bloody mouth. Along with that, he also suffered a broken jaw & lost some teeth during the fight.
Police arrests the player
NSW police arrested the 25-year old man. As per the sources, he is suspended player and came to watch the match as a spectator. The police stated that “a spectator allegedly confronted a referee at the conclusion of a soccer match. It’s alleged the man assaulted the referee by punching him multiple times in the face and kicking him to the head.” Following his arrest, he was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court to face the charges.
The incident, which was captured on camera, featured the referee saying, “He broke my jaw.” The person responsible for the assault has been identified as Adam Abdullah, a member of the Greenacre team and an amateur boxer. The footage clearly depicted a man forcefully pushing the referee to the ground, followed by a series of punches and kicks directed towards the referee’s face.

Following the incident, the referee suffered a broken jaw and had four teeth knocked out, requiring treatment at Liverpool Hospital in southwest Sydney. Despite the attack, Yaghi has expressed his determination to continue his refereeing career once he has fully recovered. With decades of experience officiating matches in Sydney, including in the NSW Premier League, Australia’s third-tier football competition, he has been a dedicated presence in the sport. Unfortunately, cases of physical assault against referees are becoming increasingly common, with a recent incident involving referee Antonio Pozo in Spain, who was assaulted after an under-19s game between Polillas and Calavera.
