After Virat Kohli withdrew from the opening two Test matches of the current five-match series between India and England, former South Africa captain AB de Villiers said on Saturday that he verified the Indian batsman. Virat Kohli is doing well and has been spending time with his family, according to AB de Villiers, who also revealed that Kohli and Anushka Sharma were expecting their second child.
Virat Kohli’s gesture was applauded by AB de Villiers, who stated that family comes first and that the superstar cricket player shouldn’t be held accountable for taking time off to spend with his loved ones at this stage of his life.
AB De Villiers Reveals Reason Behind Virat Kohli’s Absence
Virat Kohli pulled out of the first two Test matches of the series against England, citing personal reasons. The BCCI asked fans and the media not to speculate about Kohli’s motivations in a lengthy statement. Before withdrawing from the first two games of the eagerly awaited Test series, Kohli reportedly discussed the call with team management and captain Rohit Sharma, according to the Indian cricket board.
The former South African actor said, “All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well.”
Chat between De Villiers and Virat Kohli
Before announcing that Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma were welcoming their second child, AB de Villiers referred to their text conversation. He said, “Let me just see what he said. I just want to at least give you (fans) a little bit of love. So I wrote to him ‘Been wanting to check in with you (sic) for a while now biscuits. How are you?’. He said ‘Just need to be with my family right now. I am doing well.’”
He added, “Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it’s family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that. Yes, we miss him. But he has made absolutely the right decision.”
