In just two games so far in the tournament, he has scored 144 runs.
Kohli surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle in the T20 World Cup run scoring standings with his explosive performance against the European nation. Just 28 runs separate the right-handed batsman from Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka, who holds the record, having scored 989 runs in 23 games.
When India plays South Africa in Perth on Sunday in their third tournament game, Kohli is also certain to beat Jayawardene, who currently holds the record for most runs scored in T20 World Cup competitions with 1016 runs in 31 matches.
