Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli missed an easy catch of South Africa’s Aiden Markram, leaving Ravinchandran Ashwin visibly angry. When the incident happened, Markram was batting on 35 runs in the 12th over.
The South African ran out and threw the ball directly at Kohli at deep midwicket. Kohli lost a sitter to let Markram off in a crucial play that might have changed the outcome for India. Being a dependable fielder for India, Kohli’s lost catch left Ashwin shocked.
Miller took a dangerous run in the very next over, but captain Rohit Sharma failed to convert on the opportunity. After picking up the ball and seeing he had enough of time, Rohit rushed toward the stumps and attempted to underarm the ball, but he missed the stumps at the striker’s end.
In his very next over, Markram proceeded to hammer Ashwin for a pair of sixes. He ultimately reached his half-century in just 38 balls, giving South Africa the upper hand over India in the Super-12 match at the Optus stadium in Perth.
Coming to the match, Proteas later won the match by 5 wickets. Fans believe these two missed opportunities had cost the match for India.
