During the 2nd session of the match in Delhi, Kohli created history by completing 25,000 runs in international cricket on his home ground, surpassing the previous world record set by Sachin Tendulkar. He has become the fastest to score this many runs.

Kohli needed only 52 runs in the 2nd Test match to secure the world record in Delhi, and he was 141 runs away from completing 4,000 runs in Test cricket at home when he played his first red-ball match for India in Delhi since 2017 on Friday. However, Kohli missed out on his 29th half-century in the 1st innings of the match, despite playing a gritty knock of 44 off 84 balls.
