Virender Sehwag: Virender Sehwag has finally broken the silence on being approached for the Head Selector job by BCCI. After the reports came out that BCCI approached Virender Sehwag for the role of Chief Selector and was denied by them, the former Indian opener cleared the air.
BCCI has been looking for a replacement for Chetan Sharma since his departure. According to the rules, the board had to hire another selector from the North Zone, and one of the main names was Virender Sehwag.
Sehwag was the only big name from North Zone who passed the eligibility criteria. He has been retired from international cricket for 5 years now. Indian Cricket Board needs a big name to assert dominance in the changing room.
Virender Sehwag Denies The Offer
It broke out a few days ago that BCCI approached Sehwag with the offer. The offer of being the chief selector of the Indian Cricket Team. According to reports, one reason why Sehwag did not accept the offer was due to the lack of income.
Now, in an interview with Times Of India, when Sehwag was asked about the offer, he straight up denied it with “No.” It is also said that a player does not apply for the chief selector job himself if he is not approached by the board first.
And given that Sehwag earns way more than 1 crore, he is unlikely to apply for the role. It was also stated that Sehwag was asked to apply for the Head Coach job, which went to Anil Kumble.
