Vitality Blast T20: Vitality Blast keeps on giving us amazing moments. We have seen one of the best catches ever, the highest T20 run chase, and now Shaheen Afridi has just broken another record. A record that might not be broken for a very long time now.
Shaheen Afridi has been in top form for Nottinghamshire in the Vitality Blast T20 league so far. He is Nottinghamshire’s leading wicket-taker with 20 wickets in just 13 matches. And last night was his testament that he is back to his best.
Shaheen Afridi took 4 wickets in the first over of the second inning. Making him the first bowler to take four wickets in an opening over. It was unlike anything we had seen before. He clean-bowled two batsmen, and one was caught out on covers.
Vitality Blast T20: A Miraculous Over
Believe it or not, the first ball of Shaheen’s over went for 5 runs. It was a wide ball that the keeper was not able to stop. But after that, it was complete domination by the Pakistan pace starlet. The carnage started with a perfect inswinging yorker to Warwickshire captain Alex Davies. Which resulted in an LBW.
He clean-bowled Chris Benjamin on the second delivery. The shot selection by Benjamin was really weird. He missed out on his hat trick but got the wicket of Dan Mousley on 5th delivery. Olly Stone took a stunning catch on the covers to dismiss the left-handed batsman.
The last delivery of the over was unplayable and made Ed Barnard its hunt. The inswinging delivery was pitched on perfect line and length, resulting in Ed Barnard getting clean bowled. And that is how the record-breaking finished.
Efforts in Vain
Even after taking 4 wickets in just the first over, Nottinghamshire was not able to capitalize on that. They lost the match by 2 wickets which was really shocking. This win has secured them the top spot in the North Zone of the Vitality Blast T20 league.
Even after losing four wickets in the first over, Warwickshire made a comeback and chased 168 runs in just 19.1 overs. Rob Yates played an unbelievable inning of 65 runs. In the end, Jacob Bethell and Jake Lintott contributed 21 runs each to get Warwickshire over the line.
