Rahul Dravid is reportedly set to step down from his position as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, with his tenure concluding after the ODI World Cup 2023. According to sources, Dravid is not inclined to renew his contract and is likely to join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a mentor for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. While VVS Laxman, currently coaching the Indian team in Dravid’s absence, is a frontrunner to take over the coaching role, discussions about the coaching future and team strategy are expected in an upcoming meeting. Under Dravid’s coaching, India had a dominant run in the ODI World Cup, winning 10 consecutive matches but fell short in the final against Australia.
Potential Successor and Transition Plan
With Dravid in discussions to join LSG, Laxman may take over the coaching role on a full-time basis after the India vs. Australia T20I series. Dravid’s coaching has been credited with India’s change in approach in ICC tournaments, emphasizing aggressive cricket, leading to success in the World Cup and the Asia Cup 2023. The coaching transition will be a crucial discussion point in the upcoming meeting to shape the team’s future strategies.
